Whenever anything involving whiskey passes my way I am immediately interested. In the most recent case it was a cocktail event for KIN White Whiskey that caught my attention. Hosted at Resident, a new outdoor dining and event venue in downtown LA’s Arts District, not only did I sample delicious cocktails made with this unique spirit, I also got to learn all about it.
KIN Owner Bernard Lax, wants you to forget everything you think you know about moonshine before sampling his product. KIN White Whiskey doesn’t touch a barrel, preserving it’s clear color. Its taste is clean with only a small hint of sweetness. The brand itself is based in Los Angeles, but the whiskey is distilled in Bend, Oregon. This made me smile, because Bend is only 15 minutes from where I grew up and I know exactly where the distillery is!
KIN is perfect for mixology as well as drinking straight. Sip it. Mix it. Shoot it. It’s designed for experimentation and innovation. – Bernard Lax
My favorite cocktail of the evening was the KIN’s Cup, with flavors of cucumber, mint and grapefruit juice. This surprised me because I’m usually not a fan of grapefruit, but it was well blended in this cocktail and complemented the KIN perfectly! I thought you might like to try it, so the recipe is posted below.
